The anime film Look Back, based on the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, has taken home the Kineko Grand Prix in the Teens Feature category at the 33rd Kineko International Film Festival. The award was presented on November 3 at Futako Tamagawa Rise in Tokyo.

The Kineko International Film Festival is Japan’s largest international film festival for children. The Teens Feature category selects from domestic and international feature films aimed at viewers aged 13 to 18, with the winners chosen by a panel of “teen judges” drawn from that same age group — making it an award decided entirely by the film’s own target audience.

Kiyotaka Oshiyama, who served as director, screenwriter, and character designer on the film, shared a comment celebrating the win:

“Thank you so much for selecting Look Back for the Kineko Grand Prix Teens Feature award. I am truly delighted that this is a prize chosen by the voices of those who actually watched the film. Look Back depicts both the joy and the pain of being completely absorbed in something you love, as well as the bonds between people that are born through the act of creation. If the younger generation felt something through this film, there is nothing that could make me happier as a creator. My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who came to see the film, to the festival staff, and to all who have supported this work.”
