The team behind the Oshiri Tantei (Butt Detective) anime announced on Wednesday that the series will return with new episodes premiering in April 2027. The official website accompanied the announcement with a newly unveiled promotional visual.
The timing of the announcement was no coincidence — the staff chose November 4 (11/04) because the date can be read as a Japanese wordplay on “ii oshiri,” meaning “nice butt,” earning it the unofficial nickname “Ii Oshiri no Hi” (Nice Butt Day).
Series History
The Oshiri Tantei television anime first aired on NHK Educational in May 2018 with three episodes, followed by a seven-episode series in July 2018. The show then moved to a regular weekly broadcast schedule beginning in December 2018 and has been running ever since.
The most recent batch of new episodes began airing on October 3, 2025, and is currently ongoing. The upcoming April 2027 episodes will be the next new installment.
Latest Film
The franchise has also expanded to the big screen. The third anime film, Eiga Oshiri Tantei: Star and Moon (Butt Detective the Movie: Star and Moon), opened in Japanese theaters in March 2025.
