An official website went live on Monday announcing that Aito Aoyagi‘s novel Akazukin, Tabi no Tochū de Shitai to Deau — released in English as Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story — is receiving a television anime adaptation set to debut in 2027. The site launched alongside a teaser trailer, teaser visual, main cast announcement, and full staff reveal.
Character designer Manami Minakata also drew a special illustration to mark the occasion.
Story
Pony Canyon describes the premise as follows:
On the outskirts of town lived a girl called “Red Riding Hood.” One day, she found herself forced to embark on a journey for a certain purpose. Strangely enough, she kept getting swept up in incident after incident along the way. Using her innate curiosity and clever mind, Red Riding Hood set about solving each mystery. “Why is your criminal plan so sloppy?” — This is the world of a fairy tale everyone knows.

Aoyagi’s original novel was published by Futabasha in August 2020. A manga adaptation by Tanakanoka launched in Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine in January 2023, running until the magazine ceased publication in February 2024. The series then moved to Futabasha’s Web Action website in April 2024 and concluded with its fourth compiled volume, which shipped in June 2025.
