About the Manga
Iwaaki began serializing Historie in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine in October 2004. The series currently spans 12 collected volumes, with the most recent released on June 21, 2024, and cumulative print circulation exceeding 4.7 million copies.
The work has received the manga award at the Media Arts Festival held by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2010, the 16th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2012, and most recently won the general manga category at the 49th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2025.
Iwaaki has revealed that he first conceived this story more than 40 years ago and began drawing rough storyboards in his own small studio over 20 years ago.
Fans familiar with Iwaaki’s work may know him as the creator of Parasyte (Kiseiju), the acclaimed manga serialized between 1990 and 1995, which was later adapted into both an anime series and two live-action films in 2014–2015.
