The brand-new theatrical film Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Hexe (装甲騎兵ボトムズ 灰色の魔女), the latest entry in the Armored Trooper VOTOMS franchise directed by Mamoru Oshii, has announced its two central cast members and released its main trailer.

About the Film

Produced as part of Sunrise’s 50th anniversary celebrations, VOTOMS: Hexe is set in the Astragius Galaxy in the aftermath of a century-long war. The story focuses on the final stages of that conflict, following soldiers treated as disposable commodities as they pilot humanoid weapons known as ATs (Armored Troopers) — specifically the iconic Scopedog.

Cast

Miyuki Sawashiro voices Ash Vamps, an AT pilot who has survived every desperate battle she has ever faced, earning her the fearful nickname “the Witch.” Mabuki Ando voices Maki Stauffenberg, a female officer dispatched on a secret mission to uncover the mystery surrounding Ash.

A large ensemble of additional voice actors has also been confirmed, though their character names have not yet been revealed: Shinichiro Miki, Yuki Kaji, Yuichi Nakamura, Satoshi Tsuruoka, Tomokazu Sugita, Kenta Miyake, Chafurin, Yoshitada Otsuka, Daisuke Ono, Takayuki Sugou, Takahiro Sakurai, and Sumire Uesaka.

Comments from the Cast

Miyuki Sawashiro (as Ash Vamps): “I’ve never seen a character like this before. I have no idea whether I can pull it off, but I’ve been called up… On the first day of recording with Director Oshii, I walked into the studio clutching a whole bundle of anxieties. But now, even louder than those worries, is the excitement of a fan who simply can’t wait to see the finished film.”

Mabuki Ando (as Maki Stauffenberg): “‘Lives become expendable’ — what a cruel and heartbreaking phrase. On a battlefield that strips away every last human emotion, the combat that unfolds as though it were perfectly ordinary is both deeply horrifying and filled with what sounds like countless cries of grief. I surrendered myself to the world of VOTOMS as Director Oshii envisions it, and threw every ounce of my imagination into the role. Please experience it in a cinema!”
