The anime production team behind BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai (adapted from Baki-Dou, the first part of Keisuke Itagaki‘s manga) announced last Wednesday that Part 2 of the series will debut worldwide on Netflix on June 18, releasing all 12 episodes at once.
Part 2 Synopsis
Netflix has revealed the synopsis for the new arc: deep beneath the Tokyo Skytree lies the secret combat laboratory of Mitsunari Tokugawa, a collector and connoisseur of world-class fighting who is determined to prevent a forbidden experiment from taking place. That experiment is the cloning and revival of Miyamoto Musashi, a swordsman from a past era who still carries a living legacy, made possible by cutting-edge science and technology.
Musashi, revered as the greatest warrior, a saint of swordsmanship, and the master of all fighting styles, makes his return — shaking the modern era and sending shockwaves across the globe, drawing Baki, Yujiro, and an array of ferocious underground fighters into a time-transcending battle to decide who is the strongest fighter in all of history.
The role of Miyamoto Musashi is voiced by Naoya Uchida.
Part 1 Recap and Franchise History
The BAKI-DOU: The Invincible Samurai anime debuted its Part 1 worldwide on Netflix on February 26 of this year, releasing all 13 episodes simultaneously.
For Baki franchise fans, the series has deep roots in Itagaki’s original manga Baki The Grappler, which ran in Weekly Shōnen Champion for 42 volumes from 1991–1999, followed by Baki for another 31 volumes (1999–2005) and Hanma Baki for 37 volumes (2005–2012), before Baki-Dou (Part 1) launched in March 2014 and concluded in April 2018 at 22 volumes.
After that came a new Baki-Dou in October 2018 (using different kanji for “Baki” but still titled “Baki-Dou”) which ran until June 2023, and the latest entry in the franchise, Baki Rahen, launched in August 2023.
