The manga Bocchi the Rock! is preparing to return to serialization in Manga Time Kirara Max, published by Houbunsha, following a hiatus taken so that creator Aki Hamaji could fully recover her health.

Hamaji shared a personal message with fans, disclosing that she had been feeling unwell for several months and clarifying that the condition was a physical illness, not a mental health issue. The manga has been on hiatus since last November, and the magazine had previously announced its planned return this month before further details were released.

About Bocchi the Rock!

Hamaji began serializing this manga in Manga Time Kirara Max in November 2017, and it has continued to run through the present day, with volume 8 going on sale in Japan on November 27 of last year.

As for the story, it follows Hitori Gotoh — nickname “Bocchi” — an extremely shy high school girl who dreams of having friends but is too afraid to approach anyone. She spends her middle-school years practicing guitar alone in her room, eventually earning a reputation in the online world under an anonymous handle. Hoping her skills might attract others to her, fate intervenes when Nijika Ijichi invites her to fill in as guitarist for her band’s first live performance. Will Bocchi finally step onto a real stage in front of an actual audience?

English and Thai Editions

For the English edition, publisher Yen Press handles distribution, with volume 7 going on sale on November 11 of last year.
