Japanese free streaming platform TVer has announced it will stream all 120 episodes of the anime series Chiikawa (ちいかわ) at no cost, in celebration of the theatrical release of Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island (映画ちいかわ 人魚の島のひみつ). The streaming window runs from July 24 to August 23, 2026.
About Chiikawa
Chiikawa is a manga series by illustrator Nagano, which originated on X (formerly Twitter) before becoming a nationwide phenomenon in Japan. The story follows the earnest little creature Chiikawa alongside friends Hachiware and Usagi, navigating daily life that is equal parts heartwarming, bittersweet, and surprisingly tough.
The manga is published by Kodansha under the title Chiikawa: Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu, with eight volumes currently available. The franchise has also expanded into merchandise, collaboration cafés, and corporate tie-ups. The TV anime has been airing since April 2022 within the Mezamashi TV morning programme on Fuji TV affiliates, broadcasting every Tuesday and Friday at around 7:36 a.m.
TVer Streaming Schedule
The free streaming period begins at midnight on July 24, 2026 and ends at 23:59 on August 23, 2026. Episodes will be made available in batches as follows:
- Episodes #1–#5 and the latest episode — available to stream at all times throughout the period
- Episodes #6–#63 — available from July 24 to August 23, compiled into single files of 10 main-story episodes each
- Episodes #64–#120 — available from August 8 to August 23, also compiled into 10-episode files
The campaign offers fans a perfect chance to catch up on the full series ahead of — or after — watching Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island, which opened in Japanese cinemas on July 24, 2026.
