A new line of soft, fruit-flavored gummy candies inspired by Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island (映画ちいかわ 人魚の島のひみつ) has been announced, with a release scheduled for August 2026.
About Chiikawa
Chiikawa (ちいかわ) is a manga created by illustrator Nagano, which began serialization on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020. The series follows Chiikawa, Hachiware, Usagi, and a cast of charming characters through daily adventures that are equal parts heartwarming, bittersweet, and surprisingly intense. The franchise has captured fans of all ages and earned a Hall of Fame spot at the Japan Character Award Grand Prix. The anime series, which began airing in 2022, has amassed over 400 million views on YouTube, drawing attention from audiences worldwide.
The First Feature Film
The upcoming film marks the franchise’s first theatrical release, adapting the beloved long-form story arc known among fans as the “Siren Arc (セイレーン編)” — one of the most distinctive and popular storylines in the series. The film is directed by Kei Oikawa (及川啓) and produced by Saipic (サイピク), the studio praised for its high-quality animation in Uma Musume Pretty Derby: New Generation’s Gate.
