The original anime film 「超かぐや姫！」(Cho Kaguya-hime!) is set to release on Blu-ray on September 9, 2026. An additional pre-order window for the Blu-ray 特装限定版 (Special Limited Edition) has now opened starting May 28 at 6:00 PM, available exclusively through the official Cho Kaguya-hime! store.

About Cho Kaguya-hime!

Cho Kaguya-hime! is an original anime film directed by Yamashita Seigo, marking his feature directorial debut. Yamashita is well known as the sequence director behind opening sequences for prominent titles such as Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, Chainsaw Man, and Urusei Yatsura.

The project is described as a “Music Animation Project,” with renowned Vocaloid music producers collaborating to create original songs, including ryo (supercell), kz (livetune), 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot. The story unfolds across a real-life-inspired concert venue called “Tsukuyomi,” depicting the bonds of friendship among girls connected through “music” in powerful, emotionally resonant imagery, combined with dazzling 3D action sequences.

The animation production is handled jointly by Studio Colorido, known for works such as Penguin Highway and A Whisker Away, and Studio Chromato, Yamashita’s own studio making its debut production here.

Though the film streamed as a World Exclusive on Netflix, global fan response was overwhelming, leading to a theatrical run beginning February 20 of last year. Due to packed screenings, the run was extended and additional theaters were added. By April 20, cumulative viewers surpassed 1 million and box office receipts exceeded 2 billion yen.

Why Are Additional Pre-orders Available?

When pre-orders first opened on May 14 for the Blu-ray Special Limited Edition, the product sold out across various retailers almost immediately. The organizers announced on May 15 that they were considering ramping up production, and have since confirmed production capacity is available, leading to this new pre-order window.

If orders exceed the allocated quantity before pre-orders close, organizers will consider opening yet another order window. Once this window closes, the Special Limited Edition will cease production permanently.
