The original anime film «Cho Kaguya-hime!» (超かぐや姫!) will officially end its theatrical run on June 18, 2026 after a much longer run than expected.
From a One-Week Run to More Than 2.5 Billion Yen
Cho Kaguya-hime! opened in theaters on February 20, about one month after becoming available on Netflix. It was originally planned to screen for only one week at 19 theaters nationwide. However, the overwhelming response from viewers led the team to extend the run and expand the number of theaters, eventually pushing total box office revenue past 2.5 billion yen and making it one of this year’s major anime film successes.
Final Stage Greeting, “The Last Fan Service,” Before the End
To thank fans for their support, a special stage greeting titled «”最後のファンサだ!” 卒業記念舞台挨拶» (Graduation Commemorative Final Stage Greeting) will be held on June 19, 2026 in two sessions:
- Session 1 – 5:30 p.m. at Cinecitta in Kanagawa Prefecture
- Session 2 – 6:20 p.m. at Cinema City in Tokyo
Tickets for both sessions cost 2,500 yen. The same guests will appear at both events: Yuko Natsuyoshi, who voices Kaguya; Saori Hayami, who voices Tsukimi Yachiyo; and director Shingo Yamashita. Tickets will go on sale through each theater’s website from June 5 at 9:00 p.m. The Cinema City stage greeting will also be livestreamed on the work’s official YouTube channel.
Comment from Director Shingo Yamashita
“When the one-week screening began, I never imagined it would turn into a run this long. This is all thanks to the cooperation of theaters across the country and the support of every viewer. There is not much time left, but I hope everyone will experience the story of Kaguya and her friends, which can only be seen in theaters, until the very last day!”
