The official YouTube channel for the Code Geass franchise began streaming a teaser trailer on Saturday for the new anime Code Geass Star Chaser Aspal (Code Geass Hoshi Oi no Aspal), confirming a 2027 premiere for the project.
Gundam Wing x Code Geass Crossover Manga
Alongside the announcement, an official crossover manga between Code Geass and Gundam Wing launched on Kadokawa’s KadoComi platform on July 10. Titled Shin Kidō Senki Gundam W x Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch – Minuet Zero (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing x Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – Minuet Zero), the series features a scenario credited to Kōjirō Taniguchi of Sunrise.
20th Anniversary Activities
The Code Geass 20th anniversary project encompasses several other initiatives:
- A new musical stage play, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – Seido ni Jyunzuru Kishi 2 (A Knight who Follows His Beliefs 2), running in Osaka from January 23–25 and in Tokyo from January 29–February 1.
- A 20th Anniversary Exhibition opening in Tokyo in September 2026 and in Osaka in November 2026.
The franchise had announced in December 2024 that it has “several new works in production.”
Code Geass Franchise History
The original Code Geass television series premiered in 2006, followed by a sequel series in 2008. The franchise has since expanded into numerous manga and original video anime, including the five-part spinoff Code Geass: Akito the Exiled, which screened in limited theatrical runs from 2012 to 2016.
A compilation film trilogy followed, comprising Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch – Kōdō (Initiation, October 2017), Handō (Transgression, February 2018), and Ōdō (Glorification, May 2018), all released on Blu-ray by Funimation.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection opened in February 2019 across 120 theaters in Japan, with Funimation bringing it to North American screens in May 2019. Producer Kōjirō Taniguchi described the film in April 2019 as “phase 1” of a 10-year plan for new Code Geass content.
Most recently, Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture played in Japanese theaters in four parts from May to August 2024, and also streamed on Disney+ as 12 weekly episodes.
