Crunchyroll has begun streaming an English dub for the anime special Saga of Tanya the Evil: Operation Desert Pasta. The platform’s listing does not include cast or staff credits for the dub at this time.
The 17-minute short originally premiered during a livestreamed franchise event in June 2021, with Crunchyroll adding it to its library that same month.
Second Season and New Mini-Anime
Saga of Tanya the Evil II (Yōjo Senki II), the anime’s second season, began airing on AT-X on July 8, with additional broadcasts on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, KBS Kyoto, BS11, and TV Aichi. The second season was announced in June 2021.
Mirroring the first season, the second season is accompanied by a mini-anime titled Yōjo Shenki 2. Each mini-anime episode airs on AT-X immediately following the corresponding Saga of Tanya the Evil II episode, then streams on the Kadokawa Anime Channel on YouTube every Thursday at midnight JST for a two-week window. The new mini-anime also introduces new members of the Salamander Kampfgruppe.
Franchise History
The television anime adaptation of the original novels premiered in January 2017. Crunchyroll simulcast the series, while Funimation streamed an English dub. A theatrical film followed in Japan in February 2019, featuring the returning staff and cast. Crunchyroll screened the film in the United States in May 2019 and began streaming it in September of that year.
About the Series
The franchise is based on the light novel series by Carlo Zen with illustrations by Shinobu Shinotsuki, which launched in 2013. Kadokawa published the 14th volume in September 2023. A manga adaptation by Chika Tōjō has been running in Monthly Comp Ace since 2016; Kadokawa published its 35th volume on August 25. Yen Press holds the English-language license for both the light novels and the manga.
The story follows Tanya Degurechaff, known as the Devil of the Rhine and one of the Empire’s most formidable soldiers, who wages high-stakes aerial battles against enemy mages. Behind her young face, however, lives the cold and calculating mind of a former Japanese salaryman reborn into a war-ravaged world, determined to survive by any means necessary.
