Crunchyroll has debuted 12 mini-episodes of the television anime based on Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (Japanese title: Super no Ura de Yani Sū Futari), the manga by Jinushi. Each episode is about 10 minutes long, and watching all 12 covers the material from anime episodes 1-6 in chronological order.
The release of the mini-episodes on Crunchyroll coincides with a limited advance stream on ABEMA in Japan, which began on the same day. The official broadcast will begin in July on TBS and 27 other stations across Japan every Thursday at 11:56 p.m. JST. For viewers outside Japan, Crunchyroll will stream the series in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and India.

Production Staff
The anime is produced by Asahi Production and directed by Tadato Suzuki (Gushing Over Magical Girls) and Aoi Mori (Gushing Over Magical Girls, episode director on Teogonia). Series composition is by Mio Inoue (A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace, My Awkward Senpai), character designs are by Yasuka Ōtaki (Gushing Over Magical Girls, A Galaxy Next Door), and sound direction is by Kōhei Yoshida (Dark Gathering, Killed Again, Mr. Detective?, A Star Brighter Than the Sun).
The music is composed by Shin Kōno (Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, Arte, theme song arrangement for Revenger) and Sayaka Aoki (I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss, Girlfriend, Girlfriend, The Water Magician).
The opening theme is performed by the rock band ZUTOMAYO, while the ending theme, “Fiction”, is performed by musician imase.
Synopsis
Sasaki is a middle-aged office worker worn down by his repetitive daily job. The one thing that gives meaning to his days is stopping by a nearby supermarket to see the smile of Yamada. One night after an exhausting workday, he finds that Yamada is not on shift and that he cannot find a place to smoke. Then a woman in a biker jacket named Tayama invites him to a hidden smoking area, beginning an unexpected relationship.
Original Manga Information
Jinushi first began posting the manga on X/Twitter in March 2022 before it began official serialization in Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine in August of the same year. The series has eight compiled volumes to date, with the latest released on January 23. The manga also ranked eighth in the 16th Manga Taisho Awards in 2023.
For the English edition, Square Enix Manga & Books began releasing the series in February 2024. Volume 7 is scheduled for release on July 7, and the manga can also be read digitally through Comikey and BookWalker.
