CyberAgent has launched a new creative hub called Canvas Kyoto, with the goal of cultivating and nurturing a new generation of creators who wish to enter the world of anime and game production specifically.
Training Program for Emerging Creators
Canvas Kyoto offers a paid training program with a focus on teaching practical, industry-applicable skills. Participants will have the opportunity to be involved in real production projects and receive guidance from professional mentors. Additionally, a pathway is open for those interested in joining CyberAgent full-time.
Cygames Pictures Renamed to Cypic
In early this year, Cygames Pictures became a direct subsidiary of CyberAgent on February 27, transitioning from its previous status as a subsidiary of Cygames — itself a CyberAgent group company. Subsequently, on April 6, the studio officially changed its name to Cypic.
History and Works of Cygames
CyberAgent co-founded Cygames in 2011, and the company went on to produce numerous highly popular games, including Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Rage of Bahamut, and Granblue Fantasy. In March 2015, Cygames launched an anime division, and in April 2016 established a dedicated anime production subsidiary called Cygames Pictures, whose anime works adapted from its own games include:
- Uma Musume Pretty Derby
- Rage of Bahamut Genesis
- Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul
- Granblue Fantasy the Animation
Developments in AI
In April 2024, CyberAgent released operational guidelines for creators regarding the use of generative AI and large language models in image creation, aimed at preventing copyright infringement, while noting that current generative AI cannot yet produce work-ready output directly. At the same time, Cygames established Cygames AI Studio in November of the same year.
Going back to 2016, CyberAgent established the AI Lab group and launched its first Japanese large language model in May 2023. In October 2023, the company set up the Game AI Lab business unit for game development and the Animation AI Lab for anime production in the same month.
