The new anime Cyborg 009 Nemesis, a sequel to the classic work of Ishinomori Shotaro, has officially announced that Makagi Yuki (架夢貴) will play 009/Joe Shimamura, the protagonist of the series. Alongside this, the full voice cast for the antagonist cyborg group “Nemesis” has also been revealed.
009/Joe Shimamura — The Cyborg Who Fights at the Speed of Sound
Joe Shimamura is the cyborg fitted with an “Acceleration Device” that allows him to move at supersonic speeds. Born to a Japanese mother and a father of unknown nationality, he grew up in the middle of gang life. Those harsh experiences drove him to revolt against those who abused human dignity to its fullest extent.
Makagi Yuki shared his thoughts after reading the opening script:
“Getting to experience this work for real made me understand why ‘009’ has been loved across generations for so long, and it made me feel even more deeply the significance of adapting it into anime once again in this era — an era in which AI technology is playing an ever-greater role, and where the question ‘What does it mean to be human?’ resonates with me profoundly.”
Regarding the role of Joe Shimamura, the voice actor said he is drawn to Joe’s straightforwardness, gentleness, and humanity, as well as a sense of justice that sometimes pushes him past rational limits, and he admitted that Joe is a character he both feels close to and wants to embody at the same time. He also sent a message to fans, saying it is a great honor to be part of a landmark work celebrating 60 years of the character, and that he hopes both longtime fans and those discovering 009 for the first time will enjoy the story equally.
Full Nemesis Cyborg Voice Cast Revealed
Beyond the lead, the team also announced the voice cast for the members of the antagonist cyborg group Nemesis — all new characters created specifically for this arc:
- N001/Mew — A cyborg with psychic powers, voiced by Hidaka Rina
- N002/Blizzard — A former police officer with the power to freeze and fly, voiced by Hosoya Yoshimasa
- N003/Crack — A former hacker from a lower-class background with Crack powers, voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi
- N004/Opro — A cyborg able to transform various body parts into weapons, voiced by Inoue Kikuko
- N005/Aspida — A cyborg with physical strength surpassing human limits, voiced by Inada Tetsu
- N006/Blitz — A cyborg with electromagnetic lightning powers, voiced by Wakayama Shion
- N007/Morphin — A shape-shifting cyborg, voiced by Uchida Maaya
- N008/Depth — A former journalist specializing in underwater combat, voiced by Sakura Ayane
- N009/Graviton — The leader of the Nemesis group, voiced by Nakamura Yuichi (previously announced)
The team has also released a Key Visual featuring all Nemesis members together, with N009/Graviton at the front.
Story and Production Details
Cyborg 009 Nemesis is set during a time when the 009 group has been fighting to protect the world for more than half a century, but the Nemesis cyborg group believes that 009 and his allies can no longer lead the world to peace — and so they take matters into their own hands.
The anime is directed by Ambo Hideki, written by Tomioka Asuhiro, with character design by sanorin and produced by studio Alecto under the supervision of Ishinomori Pro. It is scheduled for release in 2026 (summer).
