Staff and Theme Song
Hideki Ambo directs the anime at studio Arect, with Atsuhiro Tomioka (screenwriter for the Pokémon anime) and CHARATEX co-writing the screenplay. Character designs are by sanorin.
The theme song is titled “Taga Tame ni” (For Whom), performed by Kyoko, lead vocalist of the rock band Barbee Boys. The song was previously used in the 1979 TV anime Cyborg 009, where it was originally performed by Ken Narita and Koorogi ’73 with lyrics by Ishinomori himself.
The anime Cyborg 009: Nemesis is scheduled to stream in summer of this year.
History of Cyborg 009
Ishinomori began serializing the Cyborg 009 manga in Shonengahosha’s Weekly King magazine in July 1964. The work has been adapted into TV anime in 1968, 1979, and 2001, as well as theatrical films in 1966, 1967, and 1980. In later years there was also the film 009 Re:Cyborg (2012), Cyborg 009 Call of Justice (2016), and an OVA crossover with Devilman in 2015.
Several spinoff manga also exist, including Cyborg 009 Bgooparts Delete by Tsuguo Okazaki, which ran from 2019 to 2022, and most recently in April 2024, Masaki Tsuji and Masato Hayase launched a new manga titled Cyborg 009 Taiheiyo no Borei (Cyborg 009: Ghost of the Pacific).
