All 11 volumes of Datsugoku no Kazariya — drawn by CHIEKO from an original story by Tenka Meshiko — are being made available to read for free on Comic Seymour for one day only: August 9.
Story: A Near-Future Tokyo Where Justice Is Privatised
The series is set in a near-future Tokyo where economic inequality has grown dramatically. Yielding to pressure from the business community, the government has outsourced “police authority” over citizens below a certain income threshold to a private organisation known as the National Correction Committee.
One of the facilities run by wealthy investors is the Kantō Correction Institute — a prison that, in its 13 years of operation, has never once seen a successful escape.
The story kicks off when Maki, a 17-year-old girl, infiltrates the seemingly impenetrable prison in search of her missing younger sister. Her arrival sets in motion the first-ever attempt to break out from within.
