The Devil May Cry animated series on Netflix is set to officially conclude with its third season, titled Paradiso, after showrunner Adi Shankar revealed the full structure of the series he had planned from the beginning.
Force Edge Saga – A Trilogy Hidden Inside a TV Series
Shankar explained that the episode titles throughout the series have always hinted at the true structure. He drew inspiration from the Divine Comedy by Italian poet Dante Alighieri and blended it with the world of Devil May Cry.
“This is Dante’s Divine Comedy, but with guns and a red coat. Season 1 is Inferno, Season 2 is Purgatorio, and Season 3 will be Paradiso. Together, the three seasons form ‘The Force Edge Saga,’ which from the beginning was designed as a film trilogy disguised as a TV series.”
The multi-season plan had been in place since 2021. Season 2 launched on May 12.
Looking Back at Season 1
Season 1 was produced by Studio Mir and debuted in April 2025 with eight episodes, featuring major characters such as Dante, Vergil, and Lady. The response was strong: it ranked fourth on Netflix’s Global Top 10 chart with 5.3 million views in its first three days and reached the Top 10 in 87 countries worldwide.

Project Origins and Franchise History
Adi Shankar announced that he had acquired the rights to create the series in November 2018 and said it would become part of what he called his “bootleg multiverse” alongside Castlevania.
The Devil May Cry franchise had previously received a 12-episode TV anime adaptation by Madhouse in 2007. ADV Films, and later Funimation, released it on home video, before Crunchyroll began streaming it in June 2017.
The game Devil May Cry 5 launched in March 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with a Special Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2020. The franchise has also expanded into novels, manga, and stage plays, including Devil May Cry: The Live Hacker, which was performed in Tokyo in March 2019.
