A cast talk event and advance screening for TV anime DIGIMON BEATBREAK was held on August 8 at T・ジョイSEIBU大泉 in Tokyo. Appearing on stage were Azakami Yohei (voice of Sawashiro Kyou), Hamano Daiki (voice of Murasamemon), and series director Miyamoto Hiroaki.

About DIGIMON BEATBREAK

DIGIMON BEATBREAK is the first all-new Digimon anime in two years, airing every Sunday on Fuji TV and affiliated stations. The series centers on “e-Pulse,” an energy born from human thoughts and emotions, and the Digimon that evolve by feeding on it.

Recapping the Kyou Arc (Episodes 38–41)

The Kyou Arc, which ran from episode 38 to 41 beginning July 12, delved into the backstory of Sawashiro Kyou — a top-tier Cleaner who resolves Digimon-related incidents and treasures his teammates like family. The event featured a full rewatch of all four episodes, followed by a world-premiere screening of episode 42 ahead of its broadcast on August 9.

During the talk segment, when asked which character left the biggest impression, all three panelists pointed to Kuroshio Souji, the antagonist who stands in Kyou’s way. Azakami, who plays Kyou, commented:

“A good villain needs something they carry or believe in, but Souji was so hollow it was terrifying in a different way. Miki (Miki Shinichiro) conveyed that brilliantly. While I was acting as Kyou taking his performance head-on, I kept thinking, ‘I’m going to lose, I’m going to lose!'”

Hamano agreed, adding that Miki’s performance was “truly remarkable.”

Habakirimon: A Dream Come True for a Digimon Voice Actor

Also discussed was Murasamemon’s evolution to his Ultimate form, Habakirimon, during the battle with Souji. Hamano said with a smile:

“For someone who grew up watching Digimon Adventure, getting to voice a Digimon all the way to the Ultimate level is a dream come true. I want to tell my younger self, ‘Hey, you’re going to become a Digimon!'”

He also admitted feeling pressure alongside the excitement, knowing how much fans cherish the Ultimate level, and said he experimented with many approaches during recording. Director Miyamoto noted that he had asked Hamano to portray Habakirimon as a being with an elevated, enlightened spirit — something Azakami said he could clearly feel, calling it “a sense of having transcended things.” The audience responded with spontaneous applause.

Kyou as the “Shadow Protagonist” — a Mirror to Tomorow

When asked about the Kyou Arc’s place in the overall series, Miyamoto called it “a very important episode arc” and explained:

“Tomorow is the main protagonist, but Kyou is the shadow protagonist — the two are mirror images of each other. I wanted to show that it’s precisely because of those two, along with Rena and Makoto, that the team Growing Dawn comes together and shines. This was something I wanted to do from the very beginning of production, so I’m glad we pulled it off.”

Final Chapter Revealed: The Asuka Arc

The event’s biggest reveal was the title of the final chapter: the Asuka Arc. When a visual featuring Tomorow and his older brother Asuka was projected on screen, the audience erupted in cheers.

Miyamoto said, “Eight episodes remain, and they are entirely devoted to the story of Tomorow and Asuka. Characters who have been mysteries up to now will start appearing, and from here on it’s nothing but excitement — please look forward to it.”

Hamano encouraged fans to watch for Kyou and Murasamemon’s battles now that they have gained the power of Habakirimon, as well as Kyou’s newfound freedom from inner conflict. Azakami added, “From here, everyone stands side by side to face a powerful enemy together,” and warned: “The Asuka Arc is heavy. There are still plenty of climactic moments and still plenty of difficult events ahead.”

To mark the start of the final chapter, the official Digimon YouTube channel began streaming episodes 38–41 (the Kyou Arc) for free for a limited period, starting at 7:00 PM on August 8.
