  • “The climax, where each character’s backstory and emotions are gradually laid bare, is overwhelming.”

Audiences also responded strongly to the characters themselves, praising the way each one carries their own struggles and wounds while still finding the strength to move forward.

A “Letter Scene” That Broke Everyone’s Tear Ducts

One particular “letter scene” emerged as a standout emotional moment, with multiple attendees singling it out:

  • “The twilight sky — all the sky scenes throughout the film were stunning.”
  • “The background art was so beautiful it moved me.”
  • “I loved the softness of the color palette.”

Voice Cast and Music Praised

The performances of the voice cast and the film’s score also received glowing feedback:

  • “The piano playing was captivating as a dramatic device; it felt like it was expressing Kazuki’s emotions directly.”
  • “The music over the end credits fit the lingering mood of the film perfectly.”

Source Novel Fans Also Delighted

Fans of the original novel by Abe Akiko — who won the 22nd Honya Taisho Award in 2025 for her novel Kafune — expressed joy at seeing the story brought to life on screen. The scene in which heroine Nanao sings “Tsubasa wo Kudasai” (翼をください) prompted one viewer to write: “Thank you for animating this scene!”
