The 46th entry in the long-running theatrical Doraemon franchise has been officially announced. Titled 映画ドラえもん のび太の蒸気時間車 (Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Jōki Jikansha / Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s Steam Time Machine), the film is set for release in spring 2027.
Story and Setting
The film is a fully original story — not adapted from any existing manga — in which Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends travel through time to 19th-century London, England. The “Jōki Jikansha” (Steam Time Machine) of the title is a steam locomotive-style time-travel vehicle that serves as the centerpiece of the adventure.

- Director: Moriyama Rucho — a Doraemon TV anime veteran since 2020, making his theatrical series debut with this film.
- Screenplay: Ueda Makoto — founder of theater company Europe Kikaku, known for time- and sci-fi-themed works such as Summer Time Machine Blues and Magare! Spoon. He previously wrote the 2024 TV anime birthday special Nobita to Girisha no Kēki Densetsu.

Super Teaser
A short “Super Teaser” video was released alongside the announcement. It features a mysterious study filled with familiar secret gadgets — including the “Kisekae Camera” and the Time Machine — as well as a sketch of the Steam Time Machine itself. English narration draws on lines such as “The future can change drastically from just a little push,” and the teaser closes on an image of Doraemon dressed in a top hat and Victorian cape.

I’m making this film by travelling back in time myself — to that feeling of excitement I had as a child when I first read and watched the Doraemon films. Ueda Makoto (Screenplay): “Getting to travel through time with Doraemon — what an opportunity! I chose 19th-century London because it’s the era when steam engines flourished and the concept of the time machine was born — the ‘hometown of time,’ so to speak. Time may chase us every day, but it can also be rewound, pursued, or simply enjoyed from the riverbank. Let’s board the Steam Time Machine and head out on an adventure.”
