Doraemon fans, get ready! The popular jigsaw puzzle series 「ドラえもん 浮世絵・越前和紙パズル」(Doraemon Ukiyo-e Echizen Washi Puzzle) is adding two new designs, available through the online shop 「版三 浮世絵工房」 from May 29, 2026.
Doraemon, Fujiko F. Fujio’s Timeless Classic
Doraemon is the legendary manga by Fujiko F. Fujio, following the robot cat from the future who helps Nobita grow into a stronger person. The TV anime continues to air every Saturday at 5:00 p.m. across 24 TV Asahi network stations throughout Japan.
Two Captivating New Designs
Both new puzzles contain 300 pieces and cleverly combine famous ukiyo-e images with characters from Doraemon.
富嶽三十六景 甲州石班澤 (Fugaku Sanjurokkei — Koshu Isawa)
This piece adapts an image from 「富嶽三十六景」 by Katsushika Hokusai, known for its bold use of the vivid blue pigment called “bero-ai”, or “Hokusai Blue”. The color’s impact was so strong it has been described as a “blue revolution” that influenced art around the world. In this version, Nobita and Doraemon are skillfully placed within the composition, reflecting the close bond between them.
名所江戸百景 大はしあたけの夕立 (Meisho Edo Hyakkei — Ohashi Atake no Yudachi)
This image comes from 「名所江戸百景」, a late-career series by Utagawa Hiroshige, depicting people hurrying across a bridge during a sudden downpour. The image is also known as a work once copied by Vincent van Gogh. In the Doraemon version, the characters are shown dashing from the rain in panic, adding charm and humor to the classic scene.
The Appeal of Echizen Washi Paper
The key feature of this product line is that it is Japan’s first jigsaw puzzle to use Echizen washi paper. The 版三 team spent more than one year experimenting and developing the puzzles to create a texture as close as possible to authentic ukiyo-e woodblock prints, from selecting washi paper and developing colors to ink adhesion, print-process compatibility, and surface coating. Every step went through repeated testing and refinement.
The result is a puzzle that preserves the rough texture and distinctive fibers of washi paper while remaining easy and comfortable to assemble. Once completed, the feel of handling a real ukiyo-e print gives it an experience completely different from ordinary jigsaw puzzles.
