The theatrical anime Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu (Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island), based on Nagano’s original manga, officially opened in Japanese cinemas today, July 24. To mark the occasion, a fresh set of scene cuts from the film has been released.
Highlights from the New Scene Cuts
The newly released images capture several key moments from the film. Chiikawa is seen wielding Rakko’s sword, while Hachiware goes dual-wielding with a sasumata and Rakko’s sword to slash through vines. Usagi gets a standout moment showing off a rap performance. Other images feature Siren singing a mysterious song alongside mermaids, Shimajiro locked in underwater combat, a tense-faced Rakko, and an adorably coy Momonga. Supporting characters Furuhon’ya (the used bookstore owner), Shisa, and Kurimanju also appear in the newly shared stills.
Chiikawa Takes Over Fuji TV

Story
The film adapts the long-form “Siren Arc” from the Chiikawa series. Chiikawa and friends head to an island for a summer training camp, only to find themselves caught up in a mission to defeat a mysterious Siren that has been abducting the island’s inhabitants one by one.
