The official website for Mahō no Princess Minky Momo Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo announced on Saturday that the new OVA in the legendary magical girl franchise Fairy Princess Minky Momo will open in Japanese theaters on November 13. The announcement also revealed a birthday celebration illustration for Minky Momo drawn by Kunihiko Yuyama, director of the original series.
Story
The story is set in Diginarsa, a land of dreams and hopes that exists through the energy of dreams. As humans begin losing their dreams and hopes, that energy dwindles, putting the land at risk of disappearing. The king of Diginarsa sends his three companions, Chamocha, Dettabook, and Pipirupi, to seek help from Minky Momo.
On her 12th birthday, a girl named Momo receives a smartphone as a gift. After meeting the king’s companions, she awakens as Minky Momo and becomes determined to save Diginarsa. As Momo gradually gathers dream energy, a mysterious app begins spreading through the city. The dreams children talk about in the app turn out to be shallow dreams driven by a desire for approval and views, leading Momo to begin questioning everyone’s dreams.

A Franchise Milestone After 32 Years
This new OVA is the first work in the Minky Momo franchise since Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories in 1994, making it a return after 32 years.
The Fairy Princess Minky Momo franchise began with a TV series in 1982-1983, followed by a sequel series in 1991-1992 and several OVAs. Crunchyroll began streaming the original TV series in January 2024.
