FictionJunction, the music project led by composer Yuki Kajiura, has made its debut on the YouTube channel THE FIRST TAKE, performing “彼方 (Kanata)” — the theme song written exclusively for the film Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Witch of Walpurgis (劇場版 魔法少女まどか☆マギカ〈ワルプルギスの廻天〉).
The film marks the first new entry in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica series in 13 years. Kajiura has been involved with the franchise as its music composer since the original TV anime.
In the newly released video, all of FictionJunction’s regular vocalist members participate — a larger ensemble than the three-vocalist setup used during the original studio recording, where multiple vocal layers were stacked. The performance adds piano and chorus not present in the recorded version, matching the live stage arrangement, and was captured in a single take in keeping with THE FIRST TAKE’s format.
