With over 70 new titles arriving this summer, one of the most anticipated is Futsutsuka na Akujo de wa Gozaimasu ga ~Suuguu Chouso Torikae-den~ — a Chinese-imperial-court fantasy built around a body-swap premise. The anime adapts the light novel by Nakamura Satsuki, published under Ichijinsha’s Ichijinsha Novels imprint, which has also received a manga adaptation.
A Massively Popular Source
The original novel series has earned the light-novel category prize at the “Cymore Minna ga Erabu 2023 Digital Comic Awards” and topped BookLive’s Annual Ranking 2023 for women’s light novels. As of September 2025, cumulative series sales — including digital editions — have surpassed 4 million copies.
Story: A Swap That Turns Everything Upside Down
In the “Suuguu,” a palace where young women from five noble houses are gathered to be groomed as the crown prince’s future consort, Reirin of the Huang family is beloved by all and praised as “His Highness’s Butterfly.” But on the night of the Qixi Festival, Keiyue of the Zhu family — despised as a villainess — uses a mysterious power to swap their bodies.
Reirin wakes to find herself sentenced to execution. Yet having spent her whole life sickly and close to death, she is delighted to finally inhabit a healthy body. With a spirit of steel, she embraces her exile, overcoming every setback with cheerfulness and kindness. Meanwhile, Keiyue — who once envied and resented Reirin — finds her own heart beginning to waver as she discovers who Reirin truly is.

milet Performs the Opening Theme
Singer milet — known for tie-up songs with Kimetsu no Yaiba: Katanakaji no Sato-hen and Sousou no Frieren — will perform the opening theme, marking the first time she has handled a TV anime OP under her solo name.
Why It Stands Out
The show’s central hook is the radical reversal that comes from swapping two diametrically opposite characters: the universally adored Reirin and the universally loathed Keiyue. Status, reputation, and health all flip at once — and Reirin’s unexpected joy at gaining a healthy body gives the story a genuinely fresh comedic energy. Layered onto the Chinese-court fantasy setting that has won fans through titles like Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, the body-swap comedy and female buddy dynamic make for a compelling package. Former Takarazuka top musumeyaku stars Hoshikaze Madoka and Junka have also been named Special Supporters for the production.
Broadcast Information
The series premieres Sunday, July 12, 2026 at 23:45 JST on TV Tokyo and affiliated stations (TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido, TVQ Kyushu). Streaming begins Monday, July 13, 2026 from 0:15 JST on DMM TV and other platforms.
