โปสเตอร์นิทรรศการ 攻殻機動隊展 Ghost and the Shell สำหรับการจัดแสดงที่คันไซ ปี 2026

The large-scale exhibition covering every anime series in the 「攻殻機動隊展 Ghost and the Shell」 (Kokaku Kidotai-ten: Ghost and the Shell) franchise is heading to Kansai. It will run from July 17 – August 30, 2026 at the 3rd Floor Gallery of the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art. Along with this announcement, details of the exhibition layout and ticket sales starting from May 21 of this past year have also been revealed.

The Origins of Ghost in the Shell

Ghost in the Shell (攻殻機動隊) is a science fiction work by manga artist Shirow Masamune that first appeared in the special issue “Young Magazine Kaizokuban” Issue 5 in 1989. The story follows a special operations unit led by cyborg agent Motoko Kusanagi, who possesses extraordinary capabilities in both cyber-infiltration and physical combat, working in an ever-darkening landscape of complex criminal assignments.

The work stands out for its intricate blend of documentary-style detail, cyberpunk concepts, and philosophical questions about the merger of humanity and technology, as well as the nature of individual identity — which has long captivated creators worldwide. The franchise has expanded into theatrical films, TV anime, and games, each medium interpreting and presenting the story in its own way.

Additionally, this July sees the new TV anime 『攻殻機動隊 THE GHOST IN THE SHELL』 set to premiere, with Mojo as director, Enjo To handling series composition and screenplay, Handa Shue on character design and animation supervision, and Science SARU as the animation studio.

From Tokyo to Kansai: 80,000 Visitors Guarantee a Grand Experience

This exhibition builds on the success of the Tokyo showing, which drew more than 80,000 visitors. The centerpiece of the event is an archive of over 1,600 pieces of original materials spanning every anime series in the franchise, creating an overwhelmingly immersive experience for attendees.

For this Kansai run, the exhibition maintains all the core elements of the Tokyo version while adding new displays related to the upcoming new anime 攻殻機動隊 THE GHOST IN THE SHELL — covering its story world, characters, and original artwork — so that longtime fans will feel a sense of “connected memories” while newcomers can experience the “present-day Ghost in the Shell” all in one visit.

Exhibition Highlights and Special Activities

  • Analog-Dig: An interactive experience where visitors manually flip “cel bags” (pouches used in actual anime production) with their own hands to “excavate” and take home reproduction artwork. For this Kansai run, the limit on the number of attempts has been lifted.
  • Laughing Man Mirror: Features AR technology and programming that makes the “Laughing Man” appear in a mirror.
  • AR Experience with Tachikoma: Put on AR glasses and tour the exhibition with Tachikoma, while viewing original artwork in augmented reality.

Tickets have been on sale since May 21 through Lawson Ticket, e+, Ticket Pia, Seven Ticket, and others. In addition to standard tickets, limited special tickets with commemorative items are also available, such as specially designed tote bags and tickets for the 攻殻機動隊 電脳VISION experience.
