U-NEXT HOLDINGS announced on May 25 that it has signed a share transfer agreement to fully acquire GoHands, the well-known animation studio, with the transfer scheduled to be formally completed on June 1 of this year.
About the Two Companies
GoHands was founded in August 2008 and has built a reputation as a studio behind a number of high-quality anime productions, including K, Hand Shakers (ハンドシェイカー), and Momentary Lily (もめんたりー・リリィ), among others.
U-NEXT HOLDINGS was established in February 2009 and operates the video-on-demand streaming platform U-NEXT, which has gained widespread popularity in Japan.
Goals of the Acquisition
By making GoHands a full subsidiary of U-NEXT HOLDINGS, the aim is to combine the strengths of U-NEXT’s streaming platform with GoHands’ animation production capabilities. Both sides will work together to build an integrated framework spanning the creation of original IP through to the production and distribution of anime on their own platform.
Beyond this, U-NEXT HOLDINGS aims to make the fullest use of GoHands as an animation studio to develop a sustainable revenue structure in the entertainment business and drive steady long-term growth.
