The original anime film 「GROTESQQQUE -グロテスク-」, a collaboration between director and animator Atsushi Nishigori and studio CloverWorks, has been confirmed for theatrical release in 2026. The latest announcement revealed 14 voice cast members and guest performers at once.
Creator and Studio
Atsushi Nishigori is known as the director of anime such as THE iDOLM@STER and Darling in the FranXX, as well as chief animation director on the socially impactful Shin Evangelion Theatrical Version. For this film, he is handling direction, script, and original character design.
CloverWorks has produced many notable works, including SPY×FAMILY and Bocchi the Rock!. The two sides previously worked together on Darling in the FranXX and the 2021 iDOLM@STER concept movie VOY@GER. Their reunion aims to create a strange, asymmetrical, yet captivating film experience with its own sense of beauty.
Three Stories Fused Into One
The film consists of three stories with completely different worlds and atmospheres, fused together into a single work:
- 「Ellyanz (エリィアンズ)」 — a chaotic adventure about an alien girl who teams up with a government official from a space organization to search for “friends”
- 「Yoroshiku Shojo (夜露死駆★少女)」 — a group of “Gal P” girls compete in a wild Battle Royale to win the game 〈Queen of Butterfly〉
- 「Nocturne ~Kono Grotesque na Yoru ni~ (ノクターン～このグロテスクな夜に～)」 — a pure-blood vampire and three girls who survived being bitten and infected travel by van through a ruined, deserted world after humanity’s collapse
