Kazuhiko Inuki (Girlfriend, Girlfriend) handles series composition, Naoki Hisatsu (lead animator on Fist of the North Star: Legend of Kenshiro and Legend of Toki) serves as character designer, Koji (3D director on Medalist) oversees animation direction, and Yuki Hayashi (My Hero Academia) composes the score.

Theme Songs

The band [Alexandros] performs the opening theme “Hallelujah”, while Toshl sings the ending theme — a remix version of the classic opening “Ai o Torimodose!!” originally by Crystal King.

Broadcast and Streaming

The anime premiered simultaneously on Tokyo MX and BS11 on April 10 at 25:00 JST (or 1:00 AM on April 11) and is available worldwide via Amazon Prime Video.

Background and Significance

This new anime was created to celebrate the franchise’s 40th anniversary. The team has stated it will be presented in a CG style that stays as faithful as possible to the original manga, which was drawn by Tetsuo Hara and serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump by Shueisha from 1983 to 1988. The original TV anime ran for two seasons from 1984 to 1988, totaling 152 episodes.

There is also a spin-off, Hokuto no Ken: Ken’o-gun Zako-tachi no Banka (Elegy for the Henchmen) — a manga by Hiroshi Kurao adapted into a short anime — which has been airing on AT-X and Tokyo MX since January 5. Its second part is scheduled to premiere this July.
