ภาพ Main Visual Anime Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia

The official website for the anime Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia (adapted from the manga Tenmaku no Jādugar, also known as A Witch’s Life in Mongol, by Tomato Soup) released a new batch of information last Wednesday, including a second promotional video, a main visual, additional voice cast and staff members, and an official air date.

The promotional video also revealed that the anime’s opening theme is “Stella” performed by SEKAI NO OWARI, with a preview of the song included for fans to enjoy ahead of the premiere.

New Cast Members

  • Kenji Nojima as Jochi, the eldest son of Genghis Khan
  • Ami Koshimizu as Töregene, the sixth wife of Ögedei, a woman consumed by ambition toward the Mongol Empire and who views her own husband as a rival
  • Hiro Shimono as Ögedei, the third son of Genghis Khan
  • Daisuke Namikawa as Chagatai, the second son of Genghis Khan

Premiere Date

The anime will premiere on July 4 at 23:00 JST on TV Asahi and its 23 affiliated network stations, as well as on BS Asahi in the “IMAnimation W” block. The first two episodes will air as a special one-hour premiere event.

Story Summary

Set in the 13th century in the lands of the Yeke Mongol Ulus — the greatest empire in world history — Fatima, a young Persian woman with expertise in medicine and science, travels to the Mongol court in search of a stage to prove her abilities. There she receives patronage from Töregene, the sixth wife of Ögedei Khan, a powerful woman with deep insight into the direction of the empire. Both women become the driving forces behind palace politics, ultimately sending ripples across the world.

  • Miyu Irino — Shira, a boy who works as a slave in the Mongol Empire
  • Jun Saitō — Muhammad, Fatima’s son, a clever young man
  • Akira Sekine — Shitara (Sitara), a resilient girl who lost her mother and was taken from her homeland
  • Houko Kuwashima — Fatima, Muhammad’s mother, a kindhearted woman
  • Ryōta Suzuki — Tolui, Genghis Khan’s fourth son and the youngest prince of the Mongol Empire

Production Team

The anime is produced by studio Science SARU, directed by Naoko Yamada (The Heike Story, A Silent Voice, The Colors Within), co-directed by Abel Góngora (DAN DA DAN Season 2, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off), with character design and animation supervision by Kenichi Yoshida (Eureka Seven, Gundam: Reconguista in G), series composition by Kanichi Katō (Black Clover, The Eminence in Shadow), and music by Kōshirō Hino.

Events and Awards

Before the premiere, the anime will hold a world-premiere screening of the first three episodes on June 13 at United Cinemas Aqua City Odaiba, and has also been selected to compete in the TV Films category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. Additionally, Anime Expo will host a U.S. premiere screening on July 3, with directors Naoko Yamada and Abel Góngora in attendance.

The source manga by Tomato Soup began serialization on Akita Shoten’s Souffle website in September 2021 and moved to the magazine Mystery Bonita as of March 2025, following a hiatus due to the author’s pregnancy. It returned on March 25, and volume 6 is scheduled for release on July 15.

The manga ranked 1st in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023 (women’s category), ranked 11th in 2024, was nominated for the Manga Taisho Awards in both 2023 and 2024, and most recently won the Grand Prize in the Comic category at the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards.
