Two specially designed manhole covers inspired by the TV anime Jujutsu Kaisen, based on the manga by Gege Akutami, will be installed in the Nishi-Ikebukuro area of Toshima Ward, Tokyo, starting Wednesday, October 21, 2026. If rain is forecast on that date, installation will be rescheduled to either October 26 (Monday) or October 28 (Wednesday).
Why Ikebukuro?
Toshima Ward has long promoted local tourism through manga and anime works connected to the area. The ward chose Jujutsu Kaisen because Season 3 of the TV anime — subtitled “Shibametsu Kaiyuu — Mae-hen” — features Ikebukuro as one of its key settings, including the real-life Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park.
Designs and Locations
The two manhole covers each feature a pair of characters from the series:
- Design 1 — Itadori Yuji & Higuruma Hiromi: Installed near the Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Five-Way Intersection
- Design 2 — Fushiguro Megumi & Takaba Fumihiko: Installed near Kanamecho Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho and Fukutoshin Lines
