Episode 9 Story: An Attack on Tamayo’s Mansion
Tanjiro is beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel at Tamayo‘s mansion when she tells him there may be a way to turn demons back into humans. Then an unexpected attack begins: the Temari Demon Susamaru and the Arrow Demon Yahaba, sent by Muzan Kibutsuji, storm the mansion. Tanjiro rushes to protect Nezuko, while Yushiro moves quickly to shield Tamayo.
“Yushiro’s head flew off!”
Susamaru’s temari balls have enough destructive power to punch through walls, and one of them flies straight into Yushiro’s head, blowing it apart. Fans were stunned, posting comments such as “Yushiro’s head went pop!” and “The first time Yushiro’s head flew off was such a shock.” Even Tanjiro goes pale, with vertical lines filling his face.
However, when Tanjiro tries to protect Tamayo, she tells him, “Do not worry about us. Fight. We are demons already.” Because Yushiro is also a demon, his head gradually grows back and restores itself, leaving Tanjiro wide-eyed.
“She grew more arms!”
Seeing Yushiro regenerate makes Susamaru even more excited, and she reveals herself as one of the Twelve Kizuki (Twelve Moons), Muzan’s direct subordinates. She then grows extra arms until she has six arms, prompting Tanjiro to shout, “She grew more arms!” Fans online joked that she looked like “Ashuraman from Kinnikuman” or “Hatchan from ONE PIECE.”
“Look at the arrows to know the direction. Dodge the arrows!”
Tanjiro can barely keep up with the temari attacks, so an exasperated Yushiro uses his own Blood Demon Art (Ketsu Kijutsu) to share his sight with Tanjiro. This allows Tanjiro to see Yahaba’s directional arrows. Fans praised the ability, saying “Yushiro’s power is so convenient,” though some added, “Even if you can see the arrows, they are still hard to dodge.” Tanjiro then leaves Nezuko to handle the other demon.
“Nezuko’s leg was torn off!”
Tanjiro succeeds in cutting off all six of Susamaru’s arms, but they grow back immediately. Meanwhile, Nezuko tries to kick Susamaru’s temari back, only for the impact to sever her ankle. Fans were shocked again, commenting “Nezuko’s leg was torn off!” and “Who would do that to Nezuko’s leg!!” Tamayo quickly gives first aid, but she grows concerned because Nezuko’s regeneration is slower than usual. Nezuko, meanwhile, sees an image of her mother in Tamayo.
“I am sorry, but the eyes on your hands are really gross. Sorry!”
In the middle of his fierce battle with Yahaba, Tanjiro suddenly says, “I am sorry, but the eyes on your hands are really gross. Sorry!” Fans burst out laughing: “He apologized twice,” “Tanjiro is so cute, he is still thinking about manners,” and “You do not need to apologize!” Tanjiro then adapts one of his techniques and finally manages to defeat Yahaba.
Voice Cast: Susamaru – Mikako Komatsu
Susamaru (the Temari Demon) is voiced by Mikako Komatsu, a voice actor fans know well as Maki Zenin in Jujutsu Kaisen and Cure Selene / Madoka Kaguya in Star Twinkle PreCure. In a comment shared by the official Kimetsu no Yaiba account, she expressed surprise: “Susamaru and Yahaba work together perfectly, but they actually only just met! Why do they seem like they have been partners for years?” She said she only learned this later, with the detail revealed in that episode’s “Taisho Era Secret” segment.
Voice Cast: Yahaba – Jun Fukuyama
Yahaba (the Arrow Demon) is voiced by Jun Fukuyama, the renowned voice actor known for roles such as Lelouch Lamperouge in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Ichimatsu Matsuno in Osomatsu-san. Looking back on the recording session, he said, “When I saw the footage projected in the studio, I could hardly believe those images could actually move. It amazed me.”
A Rerun That Went by Too Fast
The full-episode rerun began on April 5, 2025, almost exactly seven years after the first broadcast on April 6, 2019. Many fans said, “It ended so fast,” “They stopped at another good point, now I have to wait for next week,” and “Kimetsu feels like it only lasts five minutes.” With an episode packed with battle scenes like this one, the ending felt especially quick.
