The well-known cosplayer known as Chimi (ちみ) posted a cosplay video on X (formerly Twitter) dressed as Kamado Tanjiro, the protagonist of Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer). In the clip she recreates a key climactic move from the series — “Hinokami Kagura” (斜陽転身), a sweeping back-flip into mid-air followed by a fierce spinning slash with the body’s rotational force. The post went viral, amassing a staggering 26 million likes on social media.
Behind the Scenes: Real Flames, Wire Stunts, and a Metal Prop Sword
What made fans lose their minds was not just the accuracy of the costume but the extraordinary dedication behind the shoot — production quality that rivals real film sets. The team used real fire effects for the scene while Chimi herself was suspended by a wire rig during the hanging pose in the shot. Rather than using a foam cosplay sword, she opted for a replica metal sword (模造刀) with real weight to achieve the most authentic look possible.
Followers from around the world responded with overwhelming praise, with comments like “That’s beyond cosplay — it’s incredible!”, “The level of dedication to your own body is insane”, and “She’s hanging from a wire and still pulling off the fire effects — this is just too much.”
The Spirit of Tanjiro That Shines Through Her
Chimi revealed that during the shoot, even though her arms ached and it seemed like anyone would give up, she held onto the thought: “Tanjiro keeps fighting — we have to endure like he does.” That was her driving force.
What she placed special emphasis on was Tanjiro’s expression as he enters the “world of transparency” and unleashes the Hinokami Kagura — different from other shots in the same set where she shows a fierce, gritted-teeth face. In this image she strove to convey “the emptiness freed from all hatred and anger” as fully as possible.
Muscle Pain the Day After and Plans for the Next Shoot
After the post received an overwhelming response, Chimi expressed her gratitude: “I’m truly happy that the love for the character genuinely reached everyone, and the muscle soreness the next day actually made it feel like a moment of pride.”
Looking ahead, she says she wants to train her body to be stronger and plans to attempt underwater photography again — having tried it before without success.
This cosplay was not merely a character costume change but a record of a moment where the wearer immersed herself body and soul into the character’s world — driven by boundless passion and limitless dedication.
