The anime film 「君と花火と約束と」(Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to) has just released its full trailer and official main visual, along with several important announcements including additional cast members and the film’s theme song.
Story and Source Material
The film is adapted from a novel by Mado Kaoru, published under the Shogakukan label “Gagaga Bunko.” The story is set against the backdrop of the Nagaoka Grand Fireworks Festival (長岡まつり大花火大会) in Niigata Prefecture — one of Japan’s three largest fireworks festivals — and follows a young love story charged with emotion and nostalgia.
The full trailer centers on the protagonist Natsume Makoto, voiced by Sato Juri (timelesz), who encounters Hayama Hikaru, the heroine voiced by Hara Nanoka. The trailer also shows Makoto setting out for Nagaoka in search of the mysteriously vanished Hikaru, only to encounter a strange girl named Haru.
Theme Song: “消えない花火” by timelesz
The film’s theme song is 「消えない花火」(Kienai Hanabi), performed by timelesz — with Sato Juri serving as both the lead voice actor and a member of the group performing the theme. He shared his feelings, saying:
“I feel a certain pressure because this piece is so exceptional — but just as Makoto found Hikaru, I found this song in the same way. Fireworks may only bloom for a moment, but the feelings they leave behind last forever. I hope this song can convey that.”
Additional Cast
Two more cast members have been announced:
- Takahashi Rio voices Haru, the mysterious girl Makoto meets while searching for Hikaru. She described the role as very challenging, requiring the Nagaoka dialect, which she studied from native speakers in Nagaoka directly on the day of recording — calling it an intense but deeply rewarding experience.
- Yokozawa Natsuko voices Natsume Yukari, Makoto’s mother. She revealed she was encouraged to portray a fully hands-on working mother and worked to convey the warmth of a mother caring for her son single-handedly.
