Fans of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries) have a new piece of merchandise to look forward to: Maomao, the poison-obsessed apothecary at the heart of the series, is being turned into a Nendoroid Plus Rubber Mascot in two versions — a standard design and a Garden Party Ver. (園遊会 Ver.) Both are available for pre-order now at Amiami, with a scheduled release of March 2027.
About Kusuriya no Hitorigoto
Based on the original novels by Hinata Natsu, Kusuriya no Hitorigoto is a mystery-entertainment story set in an imperial rear palace (後宮). It follows Maomao, a young apothecary serving as a poison taster, as she unravels a series of baffling cases. The TV anime adaptation began airing in October 2023 and quickly won audiences over with its blend of genuine mystery and richly atmospheric human drama.
Looking ahead to 2026, the franchise has announced both a third TV anime season and the series’ first theatrical film. A live-action drama adaptation starring Ashida Mana in the lead role has also been announced, generating considerable buzz.
About Maomao
Raised in the pleasure district (花街), Maomao harbors an almost obsessive fascination with poisons and medicines. After being kidnapped and put to work as a servant in the rear palace, she caught the eye of Jinshi when she saved the life of Consort Gyokuyou’s daughter from poisoning, earning her the position of official poison taster. She has since returned to the pleasure district, working as an apothecary at the high-class establishment Rokushoukan. Her foster father is her uncle Luomen, while her biological father is Lakan, a high-ranking military official. Driven by curiosity, a thirst for knowledge, and a small but persistent sense of justice, she frequently finds herself drawn into new incidents.
