Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (薬屋のひとりごと), also known as “The Apothecary Diaries,” is bringing fans an immersive themed café experience with food and drinks straight from the world of the original story. The event, titled “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto 原作小説カフェ”, opened on May 14, 2026, at BOX cafe&space’s Matsumoto Kiyoshi Ikebukuro Part 2 location on the 4th floor in Tokyo, and will expand to BOX cafe&space KITTE OSAKA Branch 2 on the 6th floor in Umeda, Osaka, starting May 28, 2026.
About Kusuriya no Hitorigoto
This work is a mystery novel set in an imperial court, following the story of Maomao (猫猫), a young woman who serves as a “poison taster” in the rear palace. Using her pharmaceutical knowledge and sharp wit, she solves various incidents within the palace. With its compelling characters and richly detailed Eastern atmosphere, the series has sold a cumulative total of 45 million copies and is beloved by readers of all ages and genders. In addition, an announcement has been made for TV anime Season 3, scheduled to air from October 2026 in a split-cour format, with the first anime film of the series also set to premiere in December of the same year.
Menu Concept: “Warm · Clean · Tranquil”
The entire café menu draws inspiration from the concept of medicinal herbs (薬草) — caring for both body and mind — and is divided into three main categories: “Warm (温)”, “Clean (清)”, and “Tranquil (安)”.
- Beef stew — inspired by the warm broth Maomao used to warm her body during winter night vigils
- Mushroom and insect tempura — a nod to Maomao’s dedication to managing Jinshi (壬氏)‘s health by having him consume insects
- Chicken in green sauce — an appetizing dish with a vibrant herb flavor
- Various bread selections, including walnut and pumpkin seed, honey and berry, as well as moon cakes and egg tarts
- Herbal teas curated to match each concept theme

The café also features a menu drawn from “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto 猫猫の調合書 (レシピ)”, the series’ first official recipe book released on May 13, 2026. Items include:

- “Friendship Ice Confection (友情の氷菓)”
