Mahou no Shimai Lulutto Ririi (魔法の姉妹ルルットリリィ), which has been airing since this April, is the sixth entry in “Pierrot’s Mahou Shoujo series” — a lineage tracing back to Mahou no Tenshi Creamy Mami. What sets this installment apart from predecessors in the franchise is that two sisters from different backgrounds both become magical girls together, yet neither knows the other’s secret because a rule forbids telling anyone they can use magic.
That premise is used to spectacular effect in Episode 8, titled 「秋風と麦わら帽子」(Akikaze to Mugiwara Boushi), which aired on May 24.
Episode 8 Summary: When a Magical Girl Meets Another Magical Girl
With the end of summer fast approaching, Nonoyama Fuu finishes cleaning the house but suddenly remembers that tomorrow is a major school exam. The pressure of studying, idol activities, and the exam together leads her to cast a hasty spell with little thought: “I wish this world had no exams!” The result: not only do exams vanish — so does school itself, because a half-hearted spell tends to manifest in imperfect, unpredictable ways.
Meanwhile, Nonoyama Ruu, the older sister who is also a magical girl, senses something is wrong around her — suspecting it may be the work of a resident of the magical realm (citing a hotel stay from a previous episode). She uses her own spell, writing: “I wish the world would return to how it should be!” But because Ruu’s spell is also imperfect, the outcome becomes a world stuck in perpetual exams — whether it’s the content of snack packaging becoming test questions, or a bakery owner quizzing customers before selling anything.
When Fuu realizes her own spell has been sabotaged, she casts it again — and Ruu writes yet another counter-spell. The cycle turns into a vicious loop that viewers watching the episode describe as “a clear-cut magical girl battle!” and “It’s like the Moshimo Box from Doraemon!”
The Plot Twist Nobody Expected
The episode adds a further twist by revisiting the hotel incident from earlier — which now reveals it was a scheme by a resident of the magical realm to make Ruu doubt herself. In reality, it was a trick to make Ruu suspect the wrong person, diverting any thought that there might be another magical girl nearby. Many viewers applauded the clever plotting.
In the middle of the chaos, Ruu’s spell requesting “stop interfering with my spell” ends up forcing the TV production team — who have been following Maha Lulu (Fuu in disguise) — to handle the crisis without using magic.
Friend 幼馴染 and a Heartwarming Scene
In the tense standoff, Zeo Shota, childhood friend 幼馴染, and Kadoya Hisachi, his close friend, step in to help Lulu escape the production team — a moment that excites viewers with the appearance of the “childhood friend 幼馴染” archetype, a hallmark tradition of Pierrot’s mahou shoujo franchise.
Afterwards, Shota hands Lulu a disguise to use, and Lulu signs a contract in return — writing on the palm of Shota’s hand and directly on Hisachi’s cheek, leaving viewers delighted by the unusual autograph-signing style.
In the final scene, Fuu uses her magic to create a sunflower field in summer at the spot where she used to play with her sister, and both sing a song together — bidding farewell to the summer that is about to pass.
