The theatrical anime film Mahoutsukai no Yoru (魔法使いの夜) has unveiled its first batch of Character Visuals, confirming the voice cast for all three lead characters — who reprise the roles they played in the console full-voice version of the original game. The film is scheduled to open in 2026.
About the Source Material
Mahoutsukai no Yoru originated as a PC visual novel developed and published by TYPE-MOON in 2012. The scenario was written by Nasu Kinoko, the creator of both Kara no Kyoukai (空の境界) and the Fate series, with artwork by Koyama Hirokazu, a longtime TYPE-MOON collaborator.
For the theatrical film, studio ufotable is handling production — the same studio behind the acclaimed TYPE-MOON adaptations Kara no Kyoukai, Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel], and Kimetsu no Yaiba (鬼滅の刃). This marks another TYPE-MOON × ufotable collaboration in the 2020s decade.
Character Visuals and Story Summary
The Character Visuals unveiled this time show all three main characters in full costume: Aozaki Aoko, Kuonji Alice, and Shizuki Sojuro.
- Aozaki Aoko — An apprentice mage living in the modern world. She grew up without any connection to the world of magic and only entered the path of a full mage after inheriting the legacy of her grandfather in late middle school.
- Kuonji Alice — A hidden witch who blends into the modern era. Originally from England, she came to Japan for certain reasons and settled in a small town, enrolling in the prestigious all-girls school Reien Jogakuin.
- Shizuki Sojuro — A young man from a neighboring town who transfers to the same school as Aoko and becomes the catalyst for the entire story.
The story follows Aoko’s journey as a new mage, through daily life shared with Alice, until she finally meets Sojuro — this is the tale of the beginning of one girl’s life as a mage.
