NHK officially announced that Marronnier Ōkoku no Shichinin no Kishi (The Seven Knights of the Marronnier Kingdom), a manga by Nao Iwamoto, will be adapted into a TV anime series. It is scheduled to air on NHK Educational this October. The anime’s official website has released a teaser video, although the clip does not yet include animated footage.
Creative Staff
The anime is being produced by J.C. Staff, with Kiyoko Sayama, known for directing Skip Beat!, Vampire Knight, and To Your Eternity seasons 2-3, serving as director. Scripts and overall script supervision are handled by Shinzō Fujita, who wrote for all three seasons of To Your Eternity and The World Is Still Beautiful.
- Character Design: Yuriko Maeda, chief animation director on Requiem of the Rose King and One Punch Man TV season 2
- Music: Yoshiaki Fujisawa, known for Apocalypse Hotel, Land of the Lustrous, and Love Live! School idol project
- Sound Director: Jin Aketagawa, known for Dr. Stone and Fire Force
About the Original Manga
The manga began serialization in Shogakukan’s Flowers magazine in 2016. Shogakukan will release the 11th volume on June 10. The series also ranked first in the female readers’ manga category of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) 2018 edition.
Story Overview
This fantasy romance follows seven knight brothers from the Marronnier Kingdom, which lies at the center of a group of eight kingdoms. Each brother is sent to a different kingdom as an envoy and sets out on an adventure to find the destined partner meant for him. The seven brothers are named:
- Nemukunai (not sleepy)
- Hakuai (benevolent)
- Atsugariya (sensitive to heat)
- Samugariya (sensitive to cold)
- Kemono Tsukai (beast tamer)
- Tsurugi Jiman (proud of his sword)
- Harapeko (hungry)
Other Works by the Creator
Nao Iwamoto is also known for the manga Kingdom of Gold, Kingdom of Water, which was adapted into the anime film Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom released in January 2023. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the original manga in English.
