The production team behind TV anime Meitantei Precure! (名探偵プリキュア！) has released the synopsis and advance scene cuts for Episode 29, “Futari no Kako” (The Two’s Past), set to air on Sunday, 16 August 2026 at 8:30 a.m. on ABCテレビ and the テレビ朝日 network across 24 stations nationwide in Japan.
About Meitantei Precure!
The 23rd entry in the long-running Precure franchise, Meitantei Precure! centers on the motif of “detective work” and the theme of “seeing, feeling, and thinking for yourself to find the real answer.” The story begins when Akemi Anna, a 14-year-old second-year middle school student living in Makoto Mirai Town, is guided by a fairy named Pochitan and a pendant in her room on her birthday — triggering a time-slip from 2027 back to the city of Makoto Mirai in 1999.
There, Anna meets Kobayashi Mikuru, a 14-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a great detective. When a series of thefts attributed to the phantom thief gang “Phantom” begins to trouble the townspeople, Anna and Mikuru transform into the Detective Precure to protect everyone’s smiles through the power of deduction. The overarching question remains: can Anna ever find her way back to her own time?
Episode 29 Synopsis: The Two’s Past
Detchi Agein activates a mechanical maze through Gouemon and layers his own abilities on top of it, recreating the world of Kurea’s memories.
Anna and her companions find themselves lost inside that memory world, witnessing a scene from London three years ago — the moment Kurea and Ruruka first met. At the Kyuatto Detective Agency in London, director Mafuru tells the two girls that “humans and fairies were once the greatest of partners, but at some point humans stopped believing in fairies,” and asks them to “become the Detective Precure who will bring everyone’s smiles back.”
A detective entrance test then begins, challenging Kurea and Ruruka to solve the case of a missing vase at a mansion. Ruruka quickly tracks down the vase and passes. Kurea, however, realizes the truth — a young girl accidentally broke the vase — but cannot bring herself to name the child as the culprit, and fails the test.
Standing before Mafuru, Kurea hangs her head and murmurs, “I’m not good enough yet.” What happens next awaits viewers on August 16.
