About the Naruto Franchise
Mangaka Masashi Kishimoto launched the Naruto ninja manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, concluding the series in November 2014. Over its run, the franchise expanded into the Naruto and Naruto Shippūden TV anime series, OVA projects, multiple anime films, spinoff manga, the Boruto sequel manga and anime, novels, stage plays, and video games.
Hollywood Live-Action Film
Lionsgate is also producing a Hollywood live-action film adaptation of the manga. The franchise’s official website announced on July 10 that a global casting search had begun for the lead roles of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, with additional casting to follow. Charles Melton (Riverdale, Beef) is reportedly in final negotiations to play mentor ninja Kakashi Hatake.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: Brand New Day), who is also producing through his company Hisako alongside Jeyun Munford. Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Emmy Yu of Arad Productions, as well as Jeremy Latcham, are also listed as producers.
