Looking Back at the First Film

The first live-action Golden Kamuy film opened in Japan in January 2024, topping the domestic box office in its debut weekend. It sold 356,000 tickets and earned 533,848,690 yen (approximately US$3.44 million) in its first three days. Netflix began streaming the film in May 2024.

That film was directed by Shigeaki Kubo, who later joined Katagiri, Ken Ochiai, and Yōsuke Satō to direct the live-action series Golden Kamuy -The Hunt of Prisoners in Hokkaido-. The series debuted in Japan in October 2024 and was added to Netflix in February 2025, featuring the theme song “Kagayakerumono” (Those Who Shine) by rock group ACIDMAN.
