Netflix announced on Sunday that it will begin streaming Gintama: The Movie 2026: Yoshiwara in Flames (Shin-Gekijōban Gintama: Yoshiwara Daienjō), the new compilation film based on Hideaki Sorachi‘s Gintama manga, starting August 27.
Strong Box Office Opening in Japan
The film opened in Japanese theaters on February 13 and debuted at #2 at the box office in its opening weekend. It sold 262,700 tickets and earned 405,617,328 yen (approximately US$2.64 million) within its first three days.
New Scenes and an Original Character
The film adapts episodes 139–146 of the anime series, supplemented with newly animated sequences and characters who did not appear in the original arc. Voice actor Kappei Yamaguchi portrays Enkaku, an anime-original character serving as Hōsen’s close aide.
