Anime merchandise brand COSPA has announced a new apparel item for fans of Natsume’s Book of Friends (夏目友人帳): the “Nyanko Sensei Yojinbo Zip Parka”, a stylish hoodie that puts the series’ beloved cat-spirit guardian front and center — literally watching your back.
About Natsume’s Book of Friends
Natsume’s Book of Friends is based on the ongoing manga by Yuki Midorikawa, serialized in Monthly LaLa. The story follows Natsume Takashi, a lonely boy with the ability to see yokai, who inherits the “Book of Friends” from his late grandmother Reiko — a tome containing contracts she made with various spirits. This inheritance makes him a target for yokai seeking to reclaim their names, and he navigates this dangerous world alongside Nyanko Sensei, a powerful spirit who serves as his self-proclaimed bodyguard.
The TV anime launched its first season in 2008 and has since run for six seasons, with Hiroshi Kamiya voicing Natsume Takashi and Kazuhiko Inoue voicing Nyanko Sensei. A theatrical film featuring an original full-length episode was released in September 2018, followed by a special limited screening of two popular short episodes in January 2021. The seventh season, Natsume Yuujinchou Shichi (夏目友人帳 漆), began airing on October 7, 2024.
