ShoPro Entertainment announced on Wednesday that Julietta Suzuki‘s manga Oshi ni Amagami (published in English by Viz Media as Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite) will receive a television anime adaptation. The announcement came alongside a teaser promotional video and visual.
The staff chose November 4 as the announcement date deliberately: the date 11/04 can be read in Japanese as “ii oshi” (いいおし), meaning “good favorite” — a wordplay beloved by fans of idol and otaku culture.
Story
The series follows Hina, a vampire who spent 30 years as a shut-in before moving to Japan to fully embrace her otaku lifestyle. There she encounters her neighbor Kyuta Amanatsu, a young man who is the spitting image of her favorite fictional character — and whose blood happens to be uniquely irresistible to vampires everywhere.
As other vampires begin targeting Kyuta, his relationship with Hina takes an unexpected turn. Is she fangirling, or is she actually falling in love? Viz Media describes it as a “bloody romantic comedy” starring a 100% otaku vampire and a handsome, slightly sharp-tongued guy.
Manga Background
Suzuki launched Oshi ni Amagami in Hakusensha‘s Hana to Yume magazine in November 2022, expanding from a one-shot of the same name published in the magazine’s April 2022 issue. The Japanese edition currently stands at 10 compiled volumes — the 10th shipped on July 17 — with the 11th volume due on November 20. Viz Media’s English edition reached its 8th volume on July 7, with the 9th volume scheduled for December 1.
Suzuki’s Other Works
Suzuki concluded her previous manga series, Meitantei Kōko wa Yūutsu (Detective Kōko Is Melancholy), in June 2022. That series ran in Hana to Yume from September 2020, following a one-shot published in January 2020.
Suzuki is best known for Kamisama Kiss, which ran in Hana to Yume from 2008 until May 2016 across 25 volumes. The manga inspired two TV anime seasons — both streamed and released on home video by Funimation — as well as four original anime DVDs (OADs) bundled with volumes 22 through 25. An official fan book, “Volume 25.5,” shipped in December 2016 and included a DVD with an original anime and a 32-page epilogue manga.
