To mark the 20th anniversary of the theatrical release of Paprika (パプリカ), directed by Satoshi Kon, Sony Pictures Japan will release a 4K Remaster version across Japan on August 7, 2026. The film will screen at more than 82 theaters, with additional venues planned later.
Paprika Synopsis
Paprika follows Atsuko Chiba, a psychotherapist who transforms into the “dream detective” Paprika to investigate a mysterious case in which people are mentally disturbed by strange dreams. The film is adapted from the full-length science fiction novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui, first published in 1993, and is regarded as one of anime’s landmark works.
A revival screening held this past January received an overwhelming response from Japanese fans, leading to this expanded nationwide release.
