The official website for the Perfect Addiction anime, based on the boys-love manga by Kaoruko Miyama, revealed its first promotional video last Wednesday. The anime is being produced in the “Light Anime” format, a lower-cost animation style that can be produced more quickly than the usual process, and is scheduled to air this July.
Cast and Staff
In the cast, Yohei Azakami plays Akihito Kuji, while Soma Saito plays Sae Takatsuki.
On the production side, Akashi Uozumi directs the anime at IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio. Izumi Tezuka, who handled series scripts for I Want to Live a Long Life to Dote on My Favorite Stepbrother, is in charge of the anime scripts. Yayoi Tateishi, known for Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! and The Daily Life of a Part-time Torturer, serves as sound director. Midori Narikiyo, known for Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra, composes the music, with Kazuya Takahashi as production supervisor.
Synopsis
Akihito is a university student obsessed with looks and sex, but he cannot stand the cool, handsome Sae. Everything reaches a breaking point when Akihito is rejected at a matchmaking party because the woman is interested in Sae instead. Angry, he follows Sae into a hotel district and discovers Sae’s secret: he is gay. Sae confesses that he has difficulty feeling sexual pleasure. Breaking down Sae’s emotional walls becomes a challenge Akihito wants to take on, awakening something in both of them. Will they be able to control themselves anymore?
About Label BALLOON and Light Anime
Perfect Addiction is the second work under the new boys-love label BALLOON, which IMAGICA Infos co-founded last year with Dai Nippon Printing (DNP), CYBIRD, and BLUE RIGHTS. The label’s first work was a Light Anime adaptation of Asahi Tenma’s light novel Saioshi no Gikei o Mederu Tame, Nagaikishimasu!, which aired on January 3. OceanVeil began streaming it under the title I’ll Live a Long Life to Dote on My Favorite Stepbrother! on January 6.
The “Light Anime” concept was launched by DNP to produce animation at lower cost and on a more flexible schedule than traditional production. BALLOON aims to produce four new works in fiscal 2026 and to build a production pipeline capable of handling 10 or more works per year by 2028.
About the Original Manga
The Perfect Addiction manga began serialization in Kaiohsha’s online magazine Gush in April 2022. It now has more than 1.5 million copies in circulation, including digital editions. Volume 4 was released on March 10. In English, Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the manga and will release the second compiled book volume on July 21.
