The Pokémon: Horizons anime team announced last Wednesday that Toshiya Miyata (Toshiya Miyata), a member of the popular boy band Kis-My-Ft2 who also has experience in voice acting, will take on the role of the idol team leader “Shining Oceans” in the Unite Battle competition, with his character having Sirfetch’d as his partner Pokémon.
The episode in question is episode 141, which airs on June 19. The episode’s story draws inspiration from Pokémon Unite, the spin-off game developed by TiMi Studio Group of Tencent in collaboration with The Pokémon Company International for Nintendo Switch and smartphones.
New Opening and Ending Theme Songs
Alongside this announcement, the anime also unveiled new theme songs. Minori Suzuki (voice of Liko) and Yuka Terasaki (voice of Roy) join together to perform the new opening theme “Sekai Tsunagare”, produced by HoneyWorks. The new ending theme “Cute na Kyūtai” is performed by CUTIE STREET.
Series Progress
The anime began a new arc last October, following the main characters on a journey to Blueberry Academy, a location that first appeared in the “The Indigo Disk” DLC for Pokémon Scarlet/Violet.
Looking back, Pokémon: Horizons first began airing in Japan in April 2023 with a special one-hour premiere episode, followed by regular Friday broadcasts at 18:55 JST. Episode 29 in October 2023 launched the “Terapagos no Kagayaki” (The Brilliance of Terapagos) arc, followed by the “Terastal Debut” arc in April 2024, and the fourth arc in October 2024, which introduced characters from the Kitakami region from the “The Teal Mask” DLC.
Synopsis and Characters
This chapter of the anime introduces two new main protagonists, Liko (Liko) and Roy (Roy), along with starter Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet/Violet — Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly — plus legendary Pokémon such as a Shiny Rayquaza. New characters include Friede, a Pokémon researcher, and Captain Pikachu, his partner Pokémon, who fight alongside Liko and Roy.
